The German People

Man, when I think about the kind of things I did and expected when I was still in college, working out here in Germany was one of the last things that would have come to mind. It just never occurred to me when I was younger that I might be working in another country, no matter how temporarily it is.

Needless to say, I'm happy that I've been able to experience this.

The people here are amazing. I mean that seriously. Example in point: my friend and I are waiting at a stoplight, one that seems to have taken forever. Just as we're about to go on our green, an ambulance comes roaring down the street, stopping us and all the cars next to us. Looking over at the next car, I expect to see someone feeling as frustrated as I do.

And I do... but get this: when she looks over to me, she gestures over to the red light as if to say "ah, that's what I'd expect", and she gives me a little grin, as if saying that things are gonna be alright.

Stranger and stranger. Where I come from, there would've been cursing and a scowl.

Everywhere I go, people seem willing to go out of their way to help out. Not just me, but everyone. People just being friendly and helping their fellow neighbors to do what's necessary.

These people seem to enjoy life more too.

At work, I never see the kind of apathy that I've come to expect from people in the workplace setting. Everyone is willing to throw in and help whenever possible. They enjoy their jobs.

One day, someone in electronics was helping me out. We had to go down this spiral staircase, three stories high. We were at the top, when the guy helping me out sat down and slid down the rail.

Three stories down.

German people are cool.
